Biography of Dr. Alexiades

Macrene Alexiades-Armenakas, M.D., Ph.D. received her three degrees from Harvard University:  a B.A. from Harvard University, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and awarded the Fay Prize, the highest undergraduate honor; a M.D. from Harvard Medical School, and a Ph.D. in Genetics from Harvard University.  She was a Fulbright Scholar with a research award year in Europe.  In medical school, she was honored by the Harvard Medical School Dean’s Report and received the Paul Dudley White Award for research. 


In graduate school, grants were awarded from the National Institutes of Health, National Eye Institute and Radcliffe College.  As a dermatology resident at New York University School of Medicine, she served as Chief Resident and was awarded the Husik Prize for her dermatologic research.  She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.  She has also achieved the rare status of Double Board-Certification in Dermatology in the European Union as well as the U.S.  She was one of six among 1200 who passed both medicine and surgery boards in Greece, certifying her in medicine and surgery in the E.U.  She serves on the Board of Directors for the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, the William Woodward School, the Promenade Condominium, Primaeva Medical Inc., and Cutera Inc.  She is Senior Associate Editor for the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology, Reviewer for the Archives of Dermatology, Dermatologic Surgery, Journal of Lasers in Medicine and Surgery, Journal of Cosmetic Surgery and the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology. She is on the Editorial Advisory Board of Aesthetic Buyers Guide, has served as Chair of Research for the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, author of her own Laser and Cosmetic News column for the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology, and biographed in Who’s Who  She has also served as Dermatologist and Skin Care Expert for L’Oreal, Paris with whom she developed an acne skin care line.

      She is a Diplomate of both the American and European Boards of Dermatology and Assistant Clinical Professor at Yale University School of Medicine.  She founded and directs her dermatology, laser surgery and research center in Manhattan and a lab-based skin care research company NY Derm LLC.  She is an attending at Lenox Hill Hospital, Yale/New Haven Hospital and Yale/West Haven VA Hospital. Dr. Alexiades-Armenakas has numerous publications and discoveries in the fields of basic science, dermatology and laser surgery.  Her practice and academic work are focused on topical dermatologic anti-cancer and anti-aging therapies, laser technology and skin rejuvenation.
